Press ReleasesSeptember 6, 2005 Calumet Electronics Presents New RoHS Compliance Informational Video: Lead-Free Finishes and Material Selection
European Union Directive 2002/95/EC is scheduled to go into effect in July of 2006 and places restrictions on the use of hazardous substances including lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls (PBB), and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE) in electronics and electronic equipment.
"Lead-Free with Calumet" provides an overview of surface finish alternatives in production at Calumet. The video provides current and future Calumet customers with a dramatic inside look at the production cells, the equipment, and the people producing printed circuit boards with alternate finishes. Calumet ships RoHS-compliant PCB's to its current customers on a daily basis and is "RoHS-ready" well in advance of the approaching deadline. By providing this critical information in advance of the deadline, Calumet's customers will have more time to develop and implement circuit board solutions for more applications. "We anticipated the need for this information to provide a basis for dialogue between the board designer, the manufacturer, and the assembler. Process compatibility is the other issue involved with RoHS Compliant circuit boards," said Calumet's National Sales Manager Stephen J. Marshall. "Calumet is providing free information to the North American Electronics industry to assist with achieving a successful transition to RoHS Compliance. Calumet offers a comprehensive program of assistance from technical reference to test samples".
